Welcome to Grasshopper Caning & Seat Weaving
Thank you for visiting. Chair caning and seat weaving is almost a lost art and I am thankful that I was taught how to do it to keep the craft alive.
So many of you have cherished heirlooms, favorite pieces, or pieces you use a lot that have become unuseable because of broken cane or rush, etc. Don't throw them away or put a cushion to hide the damage. Let me fix them for you so you can once again enjoy them. Check out my Photo Gallery to see some before and after photos.
I work from my home so I don't publish my address, however, my availability is quite flexible so I work around what is convenient to you and your schedule.
Grasshopper!! Who and Why?
When living in South Carolina I was fortunate enough to meet Walter Haney, the Renaissance Man. Walter is a true craftsman and his work is amazing.
Not only did he invite me to work with him on some of his furniture projects but he also taught me how to cane and weave. In fact, I ended up doing all of this type of work when it came into the shop.
For those of you who remember the TV series Kung Fu (1972–1975), the character Caine was called 'Grasshopper' while learning and studying at the monastery. Yes, you guessed it, that is how I got my nickname. So out of friendship, appreciation, and respect to Walter; it became Grasshopper Caning & Seat Weaving.
Pricing
A most important question. In this economy repairing is often put off because of the possible cost involved - but understanding that, my pricing is sensitive to this. In addition, once fixed you and your family will be able to enjoy the piece for many years to come.
I choose not to post a price sheet because every piece is different and sometimes has unique issues. So, I invite you to drop me an email and include a picture or two; or give me a call at: 864-506-0742 (please note the area code). I am always happy to answer your questions and provide you a price.
Specialty Weaves and Options
Did you know you can often times change the weave of a piece to update a look or even vary a pattern? Yes, you may have options! Be sure to ask me what options are available.
I also Give Back
A portion of all the proceeds I received from repairing your pieces is donated to Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue.
